What size are ground screws?

Ground screws are a strong and sustainable alternative to concrete. They offer a robust and level foundation solution for projects over sloping and uneven ground and in hard-to-access areas. Available in various diameters and lengths, Ground Screws provide support for a variety of commercial and residential applications:

• Garden rooms and home offices

• Home extensions and granny annexes

• Ground-mounted solar arrays

• Holiday cabins and glamping pods

• Sports buildings and structures

• Bus shelters and roadside signage

Professional Ground Screws

Available in 800mm, 1050mm, 1250mm, 1550mm and 2050mm lengths, with the load-bearing capacities to support the majority of our projects from garden rooms and holiday lodges to solar arrays. If greater load-bearing capacities are required, ground screws are also available in 89mm and 114mm diameter and in lengths up to 2100mm.

Extendable Screw Piles

When facing challenging projects where the ground is significantly sloping or made up of areas of soft ground, we turn to the Extendable Screw Piles. Extendable Screw Piles are made up of a screw tip, with extension pieces in 500mm, 1000mm, 1500mm and 2000mm lengths, allowing us to bring up levels quickly and install through the areas of soft ground to reach more solid stratum to achieve the load-bearing capacities required for projects.

The range is also available in 89mm and 114mm diameters to achieve greater load-bearing capacities.

Reference for Different Specifications Selections

The requirements for the diameter and length of ground screws vary significantly depending on the application scenarios. The selection directly affects the stability of the foundation. For light-load facilities such as small courtyard fences, landscape pergolas, and small advertising signs, small-diameter standard ground anchors are preferred, with a conventional length of 800–1250mm sufficient for use.

For projects with medium load such as photovoltaic supports, small steel and wood houses, and container camps, 1050–1550mm in length and 89mm in diameter ground screws are commonly selected. For heavy-load infrastructure such as sports facilities, large bus stations, and heavy-duty outdoor advertising signs, 114mm thick ground screws are recommended, and in some cases, a longer and joined structure should be used to penetrate the hard soil layer to enhance the anti-pull-out and anti-compression capabilities.

In soft soil areas such as tidal flats and backfill soil, even for light projects, longer and joined piles need to be used to penetrate the silt layer to avoid potential ground settlement risks in the future.

Hot-dip Galvanizing Anti-corrosion Process

All the spiral ground screws in this series are treated with overall hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion prevention, which is the core guarantee for the durability of the product. The galvanized layer can isolate the water vapor, acids, alkalis and salts in the soil from causing corrosion. Under normal loess conditions, their service life can reach over 50 years. Even in coastal saline-alkali marshland and wetland corrosive environments, they can still be used stably for over 30 years.

Compared with ordinary spray-painted or black iron ground screws without anti-corrosion treatment, the initial procurement cost of hot-dip galvanized products increases slightly, but they require no maintenance in the future and do not need regular rust removal and replacement. The medium and long-term overall cost is lower, especially suitable for long-term and stable operation projects such as photovoltaic power stations.

Construction Ground-Level Advantages

From the perspective of on-site construction, standardized ground screws save the processes of concrete formwork, pouring, and long-term curing. A single piece of equipment can complete the installation of dozens of ground screws in a single day, and the upper steel structure can be erected immediately after completion, significantly shortening the project duration.

In agricultural and forestland projects, there is no need to extensively destroy the hardened surface soil. After the project is abandoned, all the pile bodies can be retrieved by reverse rotation, and the land can quickly regain its original farming and greening attributes. At the same time, it complies with the environmental protection control policies of various countries for farmland, and is also the key reason for choosing pile foundations for agricultural photovoltaic power generation and greenhouse projects.

Customized and Flexible Services

Apart from the products listed on the website and the standard sizes indicated in the text, the factory also supports full-range non-standard customization. For projects involving mountainous rock strata, extreme cold regions, and special platforms with extremely heavy loads, special diameters, blade spacings, and elongated pile bodies can be customized as needed.

From the initial on-site soil investigation and load calculation, to tailoring the specifications of the ground screws, we provide a one-stop customization solution, balancing the cost-effectiveness of standardized mass production with the implementation requirements of special projects. This covers all types of foundation needs ranging from small-scale household accessories to large-scale commercial infrastructure.

Installed all year round and in any weather, ground screw foundations are an efficient and sustainable solution to get your project off the ground without costly delays, extensive excavations, and with minimal impact on surrounding landscapes and the environment.
